Auburn Gulf Scholars Program, a partnership between Auburn and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, is accepting applications from undergraduates from the social sciences, natural sciences, human sciences, arts, humanities, business, design, and engineering to become Gulf Scholars. Students must be passionate about working in an interdisciplinary environment, contributing to a dynamic and engaging peer cohort group, and interested in sustainability issues in their field. Students must have at least two years left at Auburn to complete the program. Students from any major are welcome and encouraged to apply.
The Gulf Scholars Program includes a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum of required and core classes, all of which count toward the Minor in Sustainability Studies. Students can earn the Minor in Sustainability Studies at the same time as they earn the Gulf Scholars Certificate from the National Academies.
Students will be invited to participate in co-curricular activities, including field trips to the Gulf, movie nights, social events, volunteer opportunities, art gallery openings, change agentry workshops, and many more. Each student will be paired with a community partner to work with throughout the program and to complete a sustainability project.
Gulf Scholars will be recognized nationally by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. This prestigious national recognition will help students advance their career goals and set them apart from other students on the job market. Students who complete the program will earn the Gulf Scholar Certificate from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. Students will also be able to earn the Minor in Sustainability Studies at Auburn.
Students accepted into the program will receive partial scholarship and travel funding. Applications to become a Gulf Scholar are due February 21, 2024. We will have two zoom open houses for students interested in the Gulf Scholars Program via zoom link on December 12th, 2023 from 11am to 12pm, and via zoom link on January 31st, 2024 from 10am to 11am.
