Communities can provide both human connection and a strong force for change. In sustainability, both are critically important. At times working in the field of sustainability can be challenging, but hearing the work of others and the progress we’re making can be uplifting. And with strength in numbers, we can make more of an impact than a single individual can.
The Sustainability Auburn Alumni Affiliate (S3A) group is an inclusive community that welcomes anyone interested in sustainability. Our vision is to connect and equip members of the Auburn University family and partners to support sustainability efforts both in Auburn and beyond. Our mission aligns with the sustainability compass (Nature, Economy, Society, and individual Wellbeing). We are here to engage and empower a community that will catalyze and extend Auburn University’s commitments through all points of this compass.
This official alumni group hosts a variety of events that educate, connect, and engage our community. Recent events include a session on divestment with Brighter Investing, a presentation on Environmental Justice by the Southern Environmental Law Center, and virtual networking with recent alumni.
Everyone has a different story and relationship with sustainability at Auburn, whether they came to Auburn with sustainability in mind, discovered it through a class, or are looking to just start that connection now. Our members are from a mix of backgrounds and majors, and they have a wide range of careers across the country. Some of our members have joined for human connection, and some are excited for advocacy work on campus. No matter what, we have a place for you at S3A.
Interested students and alumni can join by filling out our Membership Form and by connecting with us on Facebook and LinkedIn. If you would like to contact us, please email sustainabilityaualum@gmail.com.
