Event title: Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop
November 11 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with The Jule Museum and the Native Systems Restoration Lab, is hosting Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop with artist scholar Douglas Pierre Baulos. The program is a part of The Jule’s artist residency where Baulos will meet with students, faculty and the community. The workshop highlights the connections between science, art, and sustainability.
Baulos will share the process of dyeing materials with natural pigments harvested from the University of Alabama in Birmingham Dye Garden in the Conference Hall, room 1101, of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment building. Using natural dyes, participants will personalize a reproduction of the artist’s rendering of a red-cockaded woodpecker from the university art collection. The workshop encourages participants to think more deeply about the origins of the objects they create and use.
Pre-registration is required via the Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop registration form. Space is limited.
To preview the exhibition, visit The Jule’s website at Douglas Pierre Baulos: A Bird’s Eye View. The Jule Museum will also present a public lecture at the museum on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition is on view through Sunday, Dec. 6. Admission is free.
