Studies indicate that as much as one third of all food is either lost at the farm, trade, or processing stages or wasted at the retail or consumer end. Remarkably, while food losses are mainly a problem in lower income countries due to issues such as lack of infrastructure and storage, the level of food waste is roughly the same in low and high income countries. This panel will explore the issues of food loss and waste through the lens of organizations who are working to define and solve this challenge.
