The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
This year the Office of Diversity & Inclusion will be supporting The Food Bank of East Alabama's Backpack Program by packing backpacks with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food for elementary students to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available. Students are referred to the program by teachers and counselors.
Registration is required, and transportation is not provided- volunteers should plan to meet at the location. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt for participating in the service opportunity. Please register at aub.ie/MLKWeek.
