Mitochondria: The Powerhouses of Life // Science Cafe

October 27, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm

This event will be presented by Drs. Wendy Hood and Jeff Yap, Kyle Heine, Hailey Parry, Paulo Mesquita, Emma Rhodes, and LouAnn Crosby, who will be discussing “Mitochondria: the powerhouses of life.” The talk will highlight how the small intracellular organelles’, referred to as mitochondria, power the lives of animals and other organisms. The group will discuss the structure and function of mitochondria and their work. Their research suggests that these tiny powerhouses control relative reproductive performance, determine why some animals migrate and why some animals get fat easily, while others do not. They will also describe their work that suggests how mitochondria change with exercise and age.
