Human Resilience in Troubling Times: The Story of Kasturba Gandhi

The Honourable Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma and Kasturba Gandhi, is the founder and chairperson of the Gandhi Development Trust, which promotes non-violence. Gandhi was a Member of Parliament in South Africa from 1994 to 2004. In 2002, she received the Community of Christ International Peace Award and in 2007, in recognition of her work to promote Mahatma Gandhi's legacy in South Africa, she was awarded the prestigious Padma Bushan award by the Indian Government. Gandhi will be joined by Anuradha Shankar, a senior police officer from India. Shankar was awarded the Gallantry Medal by the President of India in 2009 for busting a weapons factory run by extremists. She is known for her engagement with Civil Society for Effective Policing. Shankar speaks on the role of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba in the Indian Independence and Social Reform Movement at various fora in India and abroad.
