His stories have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies\, including Shenandoah\, The Southern Review\, The Sewanee Review\, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards\, and The Best American Short Stories. DESCRIPTION:Join the Office of Sustainability and Diversity in Honors for our spring outdoor film festival. A collection from the Oscillation Transia Film Festival with the theme of human connection to the natural world and amplifying the voices of Black\, Indigenous\, and other People of Color will be shown. Oscillation Transia is a non-profit organization that explores environmental awareness through the art of film and seeks to feature diverse voices. \nFree popcorn and hot chocolate and tea will be served. Bring your own mug and water bottle\, chair/blanket\, and dress for the weather to get cozy and watch films that amplify diverse voices and feature beautiful stories.  \nThe event will be held outside in the Pebble Hill courtyard. In the case of rain or high winds\, we would move indoors.

As its title suggests\, the stories within this book relate to the origins of street names. But this volume covers much more than that. It tells the stories of the Loveliest Village of the Plain and its people\, street by street\, over nearly two centuries. \nSam Hendrix\, native of Arab\, Alabama\, earned a BA from the University of North Alabama and the M.Ed. from Auburn University. He spent most of his career with Auburn University as a public relations and development professional. He authored a history of the Auburn Church of Christ and a biography of founding Veterinary Medicine Dean Dr. Charles Allen Cary before publishing ‘Auburn: A History in Street Names.’ He and his wife\, Mary Ellen\, live in Auburn. \nBooks will be available for purchase and signing. DESCRIPTION:Craig Darch is the author of 'L'Chaim and Lamentations'\, a collection of seven richly layered stories that tackle not only the question of what it means to be Jewish but also what it means to be human\, exploring universal themes of companionship and loneliness\, faith and perseverance.\nDarch is the Humana-Sherman-Germany Distinguished Professor of Special Education at Auburn University. He earned his doctorate at the University of Oregon and has taught at Auburn for 37 years. He is the author of 'From Brooklyn to the Olympics: The Hall of Fame Career of Auburn University Track Coach Mel Rosen' and has co-authored three college-level textbooks on learning and intellectual disabilities. \nThe event is free\, open to the public and will be followed by refreshments. DESCRIPTION:Arizona duo 'Ryanhood'\, composed of Ryan Green and Cameron Hood\, will perform their seasonal 'A Winter’s Evening' show\, opened by Auburn's 'Picktheria'. The duo has performed in over 800 shows across the nation\, with a cross-generational sound that has graced colleges\, coffee-houses\, concert halls\, churches\, and living rooms. They have won a number of awards including 'Best Folk Band' and 'Best Rock Band' by the Tucson Music Awards\, among others. DESCRIPTION:Members of the East Alabama Korean community are invited to attend a free holiday-themed event\, which will include a tour of the historic Scott-Yarbrough House from 1847\, apple cider\, classic holiday treats\, and a discussion of Truman Capote's famous short story '<a href='https://faculty.weber.edu/jyoung/English%206710/A%20Christmas%20Memory.pdf'>A Christmas Memory</a>' (a Korean translation can be found <a href='https://cla.auburn.edu/cah/assets/File/A%20Christmas%20Memory%20(Translated).pdf'>here</a>). Children are invited to write and bring a 200-300 word story of their favorite Christmas memory to present to the group\, and judges will award prizes to each child who shares a story.\nThe free event is sponsored by the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University and The Korea Corner in the Office of the Vice President for University Outreach.

DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Leadership Institute\\, WLI\\, invites the community to a reception for the launch of the book Outside In: Voices from the Margins. The book is edited by Barbara A. Baker\\, executive director of WLI and Joyce De Vries\\, professor of art history. The book includes narratives written by academic practitioners who have experienced exclusion as a result of gender and/or ethnicity\\, particularly from the decision-making and policy-setting arenas of university administration. The book seeks to drive change within higher education and lead to full inclusion for all genders/ethnicities within the academic community for future generations to come.\nBarbara A. Baker has published five books and several articles on topics ranging from leadership to literature. A member of Auburn’s graduate faculty\\, she teaches courses in Women’s Leadership\\, Women’s and Africana Studies\\, Community and Civic Engagement and in the Honors College. \nJoyce de Vries was the director of women’s studies at Auburn University from 2011-2017. Her research focuses on women\\, diversity and inclusion in academia; feminist analysis of contemporary visual culture\\, and gender\\, material culture and the domestic realm in early modern Italy. \nThe event is free and open to all\\, but RSVP is encouraged. DESCRIPTION:All are invited to an exhibition of posters designed with international translations of the Auburn Creed. Auburn University faculty\\, staff and students in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures\\, Department of Philosophy\\, Korea Corner\\, Arabic Center and University Outreach provided translations for students in two graphic design courses taught by Ross Heck and Samantha Herbert to transform into posters. Translators will read from translations and students will discuss their design strategies at the exhibition. The project commemorates the 75th anniversary of the writing of the Auburn Creed\\, written by George Petrie in 1943. The event is free and refreshments will be provided.

He was the first Walter Meyer Professor of Law at NYU School of Law and is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Hawaii. DESCRIPTION:Centered on a special issue of the <em>Alabama Review </em>to be published in April that explores the state’s environmental history\\, the symposium offers a window into a rapidly growing number of studies that has called attention to the historical intersections of nature and culture in the South. Speakers include Jack Davis\\, University of Florida; Jason Hauser\\, Mississippi State; Erin Mauldin\\, Samford University; Ellen Spears\\, University of Alabama; and Nick Timmerman\\, Mississippi State.\nThe symposium is a program of <a href=\'http://auburn.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e8f813e1bfd52cbea154b18e7&id=8c292a35f2&e=d4b0ddedfd\' target=\'_blank\' rel=\'noopener\'>2017 Breeden Eminent Scholar</a> Mark Hersey. The Daniel F. Breeden Eminent Scholar Chair was established in 1989 to provide support for both the academic and the outreach missions of the College of Liberal Arts. The chair is supported by an endowment from Dr. Daniel F. Breeden. \nThe symposium is free and open to the public.
