Clayton came to Auburn from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\\, where she served from 2012-2014 as vice provost and chief diversity officer and from 2014-2016 as associate vice chancellor and chief diversity officer. She also holds a faculty appointment as a clinical assistant professor of education at UNC’s School of Education.

Her talk will feature prominent African American figures who worked through failure to achieve mastery as part of their process of innovation and discovery. A book signing will follow.

Lewis is a bestselling author\\, curator and assistant professor at Harvard University. Her most recent book is a Los Angeles Times bestseller\\, \'The Rise: Creativity\\, the Gift of Failure\\, and the Search for Mastery\\,\' a narrative of how innovation\\, discovery and creative progress are driven by the challenges of goals not yet achieved.
