SUMMARY:2018 Women's Leadership Conference
DESCRIPTION:The theme for this event is \'Innovating a Better Future\\,\' a focus on the value of sharing ideas\\, creating spaces for collaboration and networking as a tool to connect innovative ideas. Centering around this year\'s theme\\, the conference will feature keynote speaker Lauren Washington. Washington is the founder of Black Women Talk Tech\\, a conference that educates\\, promotes\\, researches and funds entrepreneurial ventures of black women in tech. She also developed the Keep Up app to help with managing social media. The Women\'s Leadership Conference is open to all including faculty\\, staff\\, professionals\\, students and community members. Panel session topics will include Equipping Ourselves to Innovate\\, Ideating on Innovating\\, Innovation and You: Moving to the Next Step in Your Career\\, Positive Disruption and Social Entrepreneurship- Activating Passion for Social Justice\\, and Throwing out the Box- Recognizing Opportunity and Embracing Creativity. Registration on-site will be from 8-10 a.m. The conference begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1:45 p.m. The fee for Auburn students\\, faculty and staff is $35\\, and non-student registration fee is $50.

DESCRIPTION:Auburn University\'s Office of Inclusion and Diversity is hosting the 2018 Diversity Best Practices Conference with the theme of “Accelerating Diversity in Dynamic Environments.” The conference will provide professionals and students with new approaches to promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives within their organizations.\nBringing together scholars from diverse disciplines and institutions\\, the conference explores organizational best practices and addresses key issues impacting the field of inclusion and diversity. As organizations continue to be impacted by constant change\\, limited resources and complex political systems\\, the conference engages participants in approaches necessary for enhancing cross-disciplinary relationships. \nThe conference features a keynote address by inclusion and diversity thought leader Damon Williams. Widely respected as one of the nation\'s most dynamic and innovative leaders in diversity and inclusion management\\, Williams has counseled more than 1\\,000 colleges and universities\\, Fortune 100 companies\\, foundations and agencies on facilitating diversity and change management\\, creating equitable educational outcomes and activating learning and leadership in transformative ways. \nConference participants will benefit from a review of organizational diversity and inclusion strategies; discussion of policy changes impacting the efficacy of organizational diversity programs; and a review of best practices that shape the landscape of organizational diversity. \nRegistration is $175. Vimlendra Sharan\\, a citizen of India\\, joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2016 as director of its Washington\\, DC-based Liaison Office for North America\\, bringing to that post 25 years\' experience in Indian and international government leadership on rural development\\, agriculture\\, and food security issues.  Previously\\, he was India\'s permanent representative to UN agencies in Rome.  He also chaired the International Fund for Agricultural Development\'s Evaluation Committee and served as vice president of the World Food Program\'s Executive Board.

DESCRIPTION:<p class=\'autodayp1\'>The Auburn University Women’s Center\\, a division of the Office of Inclusion and Diversity\\, will host its 11th annual Women’s Leadership Conference at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.</p><p class=\'autodayp1\'>The conference\\, with the theme “Be Bold\\, Be Powerful\\, Be You\\,” will feature Heidi Durrow\\, the New York Times bestselling author of “The Girl Who Fell From the Sky\\,” as the luncheon keynote speaker. Durrow’s book received the Barbara Kingsolver’s PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction.</p>\nDurrow is a graduate of Stanford\\, Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism and Yale Law School. Originally from the Pacific Northwest\\, she has worked as a corporate attorney at Cravath\\, Swaine and Moore and as a Life Skills trainer to professional athletes of the National Football League and National Basketball Association. \nEbony Magazine named Durrow as one of its Power 100 Leaders of 2010 along with writers Edwidge Danticat and Malcolm Gladwell. She was nominated for a 2011 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Debut. \nThis one-day conference will feature a series of workshops to choose from that will provide the opportunity to learn about and explore a variety of issues relevant to women today. The goal is to facilitate the development of emerging leaders and provide women with the necessary resources to assume leadership roles beyond the campus setting. DESCRIPTION:Featuring Nikki Giovanni\\, American Poet\\, Writer\\, Commentator\\, Activist and EducatorThe East Central Alabama chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) will host its Annual Dr. Martin Luther King\\, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast to commemorate the civil rights pioneer’s legacy. This year’s keynote speaker is Nikki Giovanni\\, an American poet\\, writer\\, commentator\\, activist\\, and educator. One of the world\'s most well-known African-American poets\\, her work includes poetry anthologies\\, poetry recordings\\, and nonfiction essays\\, and covers topics ranging from race and social issues to children\'s literature. She has won numerous awards\\, including the Langston Hughes Medal\\, the NAACP Image Award\\, and has been nominated for a Grammy Award\\, for her Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection. Additionally\\, she has recently been named as one of Oprah Winfrey’s twenty-five <i>Living Legends</i>.\nThe scholarship breakfast will take place Monday\\, January 16\\, 2017 at 7:30 am at the Auburn University Hotel & Conference Center. Now in its 23rd year\\, the breakfast consists of scholarship presentations\\, awards and other recognitions. Such an expression of unity is appropriate\\, as NFBPA aims to be an example of community involvement\\, cross-cultural unity\\, and service towards others. \nScholarships will be awarded to area high school students and the Dr. Martin Luther King\\, Jr. Community Service Award will be presented.
