SUMMARY:Outside In: Voices from the Margins Book Launch Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Leadership Institute\\, WLI\\, invites the community to a reception for the launch of the book Outside In: Voices from the Margins. The book is edited by Barbara A. Baker\\, executive director of WLI and Joyce De Vries\\, professor of art history. The book includes narratives written by academic practitioners who have experienced exclusion as a result of gender and/or ethnicity\\, particularly from the decision-making and policy-setting arenas of university administration. The book seeks to drive change within higher education and lead to full inclusion for all genders/ethnicities within the academic community for future generations to come.\nBarbara A. Baker has published five books and several articles on topics ranging from leadership to literature. A member of Auburn’s graduate faculty\\, she teaches courses in Women’s Leadership\\, Women’s and Africana Studies\\, Community and Civic Engagement and in the Honors College. \nJoyce de Vries was the director of women’s studies at Auburn University from 2011-2017. Her research focuses on women\\, diversity and inclusion in academia; feminist analysis of contemporary visual culture\\, and gender\\, material culture and the domestic realm in early modern Italy. \nThe event is free and open to all\\, but RSVP is encouraged.
