SUMMARY:Dr. Katharine Hayhoe: Faith\, Climate Change\, & Our Culture in the U.S.
DESCRIPTION:<span style=’font-weight: 400;’>Mounting scientific evidence clearly documents the risks posed by climate change to the poor\, the needy\, and other vulnerable populations\, the very people Christians and other faiths are called to love.  As the scientific evidence builds\, however\, so does the vocal opposition to this evidence in the U.S. Much of the disagreement comes from political and religious conservatives. Why is climate change so polarizing to these communities?  What makes it so hard to comprehend and accept? Combining basic tenets of the Christian faith with recent findings from the areas of psychology\, sociology\, and climate science\, I will discuss potential reasons for these disagreements and the role that shared values may plan in moving us forward past these barriers. This event is organized by the Office of Sustainability and the Department of Geosciences with additional support from </span>the College of Agriculture and Academic Sustainability Programs.\nDue to construction\, all vehicular and foot traffic must enter The Hotel at Auburn University via the south entrance near the parking deck. Patrons may enter the building through the south doors near the parking deck or the main entrance. \nFree parking is available in campus lots after 5:30 PM. The closest locations are levels 2 and 3 of the South College Parking Deck\, the Draughon Library Parking Deck\, and the lot in front of Comer Hall. The Hotel at Auburn University has valet parking.
