SUMMARY:Native Habit Project's Kyle Lybarger Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Lybarger is a forester and social media figure working to promote native plants and grassland conservation. He explores Alabama and identifies a variety of native plant wildlife — often from just wandering roadsides\, trails\, and open fields. His findings have helped restore a number of Alabama’s dwindling grasslands. He was the first known person to find purple milkweed in Alabama and the first to document Durand Oak\, a plant that typically thrives in prairies. \nAfter an increase in social media popularity\, the Alabama A&M alum co-founded the Native Habitat Project with his friends Alan Summerford\, an Auburn agricultural economics alum\, and Jake Brown\, an Auburn environmental engineering alum. \nThe Native Habitat Project strives to support habitat restoration efforts across Alabama. It provides a variety of services such as property consultations\, native plantings\, wildlife management plans\, forestry consulting\, prescribed burning\, and brand partnerships. \nLybarger’s social media platforms have made him a well-known voice in Alabama as a leading naturalist and advocate for grassland restoration. \nPizza will be served to attendees! \nQuestions can be directed to Dr. Ryan Thomson .

SUMMARY:Screening of “Food Evolution”
DESCRIPTION:Join Auburn University’s College of Agriculture for a screening of the documentary “Food Evolution” as countries around the globe observe World Food Day 2017.\n“Food Evolution” is a documentary that takes an in-depth look at the polarizing debate over genetically modified organisms\\, or GMOs. Producers describe the 92-minute film as an effort to examine the issue objectively\\, separating hype and emotion from the science and data. Narrated by science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson\\, “Food Evolution” includes interviews with more than 30 individuals on opposing sides of the heated GMO dispute\\, from food scientists and farmers to environmentalists and chemical company executives. \nThe film’s ultimate objective\\, producers say\\, is to present the viewpoints of those for and against GMOs and to provide scientific data so audience members can make their own informed food decisions. \n“Feeding a growing global population in a sustainable\\, environmentally responsible way is a mission that we in the College of Agriculture take very seriously\\,” Dean Paul Patterson said. “This documentary looks at all sides of food-related issues and allows us to understand everyone’s concerns.” \nWorld Food Day is observed internationally each Oct. 16 to increase awareness of hunger and the need for food security for all and to achieve the World Food Organization’s goal of Zero Hunger by 2030. \nFind more about “Food Evolution” online at foodevolutionmovie.com.
