SUMMARY:Cycle September - Register\, Ride\, & Win
DESCRIPTION:This September\, the Auburn Cycling Advisory Committee wants to bring all the glorious benefits of bike riding to Auburn University. Even a short bike ride can help to build fitness\, improve mental health\, improve sleep\, save money\, and protect the planet. And by riding during Cycle September\, you could win prizes while helping Auburn climb the leaderboards. \nTo get involved\, register with Love to Ride\, select your Auburn college/workplace\, then you’re ready to go! \n🚲 Bike anywhere\, any time – it’s not about how fit you are or how far you ride \n⏱ Even a 10-minute ride around the park would count and get you scoring points \n🥳 Score even more points by encouraging your friends\, family\, and co-workers to ride \n🏆 The points you earn will help us climb the leaderboards and count as prize-drawing entries \nIf you are new to riding a bike\, or it’s been a while\, there’s plenty of help on Love to Ride. From tips articles to Quick Courses\, you can upskill and get back on a bike with confidence. This could be a great opportunity to learn to ride\, try a bike commute for the first time\, or switch cars for handlebars more often. \n➡️ Register at aub.ie/cycle and don’t forget to add your college/workplace.

SUMMARY:Electric Vehicle Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Electric Vehicle Showcase and learn how you can enjoy the economical & fun experience of owning an electric vehicle.  Electric bikes and autos will be brought by actual owners and possibly a few local dealers. We are also pleased to announce that Auburn University Transportation Services will be showcasing one of their fully electric 12-passenger vans! This will be an educational event\, not a sales event\, so bring your questions and talk with actual owners of a variety of makes and models. See why electric vehicles are the fastest growing transportation segment. It is a fun and informative time\, so come kick the tires and ask questions! \nRegister here if you are an electric vehicle owner and would like to be a part of the showcase. \nThis event will take place at the Gogue Performing Arts Center parking lot on Woodfield Drive between South College Street and and South Donahue Drive.

SUMMARY:Dispatches from a Solarpunk Future: Combining Art & Science to Solve the Climate Crisis
DESCRIPTION:As the climate emergency continues to intensify\, much of the public & institutional response to mounting disaster remains stalemated. Perhaps this is the result of nihilist framing of the crisis by activists\, media\, & scientists\, a paradigm often referred to as `climate doomerism’. \nThe emerging solarpunk movement–which includes the work of artists\, writers\, philosophers\, and scientists–can provide an alternative\, post-nihilistic\, pathway for actualizing solutions to climate change. There exists\, therefore\, an exciting & necessary opportunity for scientists to collaborate with artists to not only improve the communication of climate science\, but also to bolster the production of scientific knowledge. \nDr. Tosca will present the results of several collaborative projects—inspired by that work—that combine the scientific method with design and art-making processes. These ‘solarpunk’ approaches synthesize art and science toward imagining (and building) a more optimistic future. Sharing that we need more of these types of approaches if we are ever going to inspire our collective imaginations and solve the climate crisis in time. \nDr. Tosca currently serves as a climate scientist and an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Her current research and public outreach explores the the synthesis of art and climate science and posits that engaging with artists\, designers\, and makers is instrumental to solving the climate crisis.   Her visit to Auburn is sponsored by the Auburn National Science Foundation Research Traineeship\, the Department of Geosciences\, and the Office of Sustainability.
