DESCRIPTION:Litter from across Auburn’s campus gets washed into storm drains and is delivered to the local Parkerson Mill Creek. Alabama Watershed Stewards with Auburn Water Resources Center and Risk Management are accepting volunteers for an afternoon litter pickup at the creek. \nThe pickup will be Thursday\, Feb. 17\, from 2-4 p.m. Participants will meet outside the wellness kitchen at Parkerson Mill Creek. \nParticipants should wear waterproof shoes and clothes they do not mind getting dirty. SUMMARY:75th Anniversary Dean’s Forum & Alumni Social with Dr. Janaki Alavalapati
DESCRIPTION:Auburn University will host a virtual Dean’s Forum and Alumni Social with Dr. Janaki Alavalapati on Thursday\, February 17\, as part of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences’ 75th Anniversary Celebration. \nDr. Janaki Alavalapati was appointed dean of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences in 2015. Before that\, he spent eight years as professor and head of the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation in the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech and several years on the School of Forest Resources and Conservation faculty at the University of Florida. Since he was appointed dean\, Dr. Alavalapati has established several new undergraduate degrees and professional graduate programs and created the student leadership development program\, Forests\, Environment\, and Wildlife Leadership\, or FEWL\, Academy. Under his leadership\, the school has increased student enrollment by over 50%\, the diversity of the school’s faculty by 30%\, and increased the school’s research funding by over 80%. \nDr. Glenn Glover\, alumnus and emeritus professor\, will serve as moderator of the question-and-answer forum. Following the discussion\, attendees are invited to remain on the Zoom to participate in the Alumni Social. \nThe forum and social is open to faculty\, staff\, students\, and the school’s alumni via Zoom from 6 – 7 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed via the school’s Facebook page.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Office of Sustainability and Diversity in Honors for our spring outdoor film festival. A collection from the Oscillation Transia Film Festival with the theme of human connection to the natural world and amplifying the voices of Black\, Indigenous\, and other People of Color will be shown. Oscillation Transia is a non-profit organization that explores environmental awareness through the art of film and seeks to feature diverse voices. \nFree popcorn and hot chocolate and tea will be served. Bring your own mug and water bottle\, chair/blanket\, and dress for the weather to get cozy and watch films that amplify diverse voices and feature beautiful stories.  \nThe event will be held outside in the Pebble Hill courtyard. In the case of rain or high winds\, we would move indoors.

DESCRIPTION:The Office of Inclusion and Diversity will be hosting its annual Women’s Leadership Conference “Creating HERstory” at the AU Hotel & Conference Center on February 28\, 2022. This event focuses on educating and empowering Auburn women to create their own story. \nBlair Imani author of “Modern HERstory” will be the keynote speaker and host a book signing. We will host a student panel with current Auburn student leaders for a question-and-answer session on creating and embracing opportunities at Auburn. We will also hear from 5 outstanding Auburn female faculty and staff who will share their journey and provide personal inspiration along with practical application skills to help students navigate their next steps. \nThis is a free event to all AU students.  Available for in-person or virtual attendance.
