Free soda\, hot chocolate\, tea\, water\, and popcorn will be provided\, and Auburn Outdoors will also be hosting a build-your-own s’mores table! The event will begin at 7:00 PM with the screening starting at 7:30 PM. In the interest of sustainability\, we ask that you please bring your own mugs and/or water bottles. The screening will be outside so please feel free to bring your own chairs or picnic blankets and dress for the weather. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our Spring 2024 Sustainability Speaker Series: – Climate Change: A Story of Opportunities and Possibilities to Reverse Global Warming with Dr. Jonathan Foley.  \nJonathan Foley\, Ph.D.\, Executive Director of Project Drawdown\, is a world-renowned environmental scientist\, sustainability expert\, author\, and public speaker. His work focuses on understanding our changing planet and finding new solutions to sustain the climate\, ecosystems\, and natural resources we all depend on.  \nDr. Foley will present on the innovative initiative Project Drawdown\, whose mission is to help the world stop climate change as quickly\, safely\, and equitably as possible.  Project Drawdown identifies solutions and strategies for stopping climate change\, engages all sectors of society to bring climate solutions to scale\, and works to shift the conversation from doom and gloom to possibility and opportunity.  Almost every solution identified by Project Drawdown is regenerative development that has the potential to create millions of jobs.  Project Drawdown proves we can stop global warming and draw down greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere to form a more sustainable world.  \nDr. Foley’s presents on Monday\, March 18th\, 2024\, in the Langdon Hall Auditorium at Auburn University starting at 7:00 PM. Moisés Molina is a cellist from Honduras\, and\, in addition to being a musician\, he is also a clinician and Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama. Minjung Seo is a pianist and lecturer at Auburn University. She won the Samuel Sanders Collaborative Pianists Award and has been a pianist and coach at the Juilliard School and Lincoln Center. \nThe recital will be located in Room 125 at the Goodwin Recital Hall. It is open to the public\, and the cost is $15 for the general public and $7.50 for Auburn University students. DESCRIPTION:The Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and the Humanities and the Department of History are hosting a talk from Charles Mauldin\, a Civil Rights Foot Soldier\, on February 2 at 1pm. Mauldin participated in the teacher’s march\, was present at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s meeting when it was decided to march to Montgomery\, and assisted people such as John Lewis in organizing support for the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Mauldin was also one of the individuals that was protesting on the day that became known as Bloody Sunday\, the day that peaceful protestors were advocating for voting rights.  For more information\, visit their calendar. SUMMARY:Plant Ahead: A Tree Planting Event
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Office of Sustainability and the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center for Plant Ahead: A Tree Planting Event. Volunteers are invited to come plant trees at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center! Together\, we will learn about forestry practices\, Alabama’s native flora\, and how to properly plant trees while enjoying the beautiful outdoor scenery and wildlife of the preserve. A short information session will precede the event!  \nWork will be physical so volunteers should wear clothing that will protect the legs\, clothes you do not mind getting dirty\, and closed-toed shoes. A water cooler will be present\, so please bring a refillable water bottle. Additionally\, volunteers should bring gloves\, if available. Tools and some gloves will be available. Registration is requested\, but not required\, prior to the event. For an event reminder and to help spread the word\, RSVP for the PLANt Ahead event on Facebook. Students can register on the Office of Sustainability GivePulse. Waivers will be signed on site.    \nWe will meet in the parking lot at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center. Please join us on Thursday\, February 1\, 2024\, from 2:30 PM-4:30 PM at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center to get outside and plant ahead! We will plant trees even if it is raining but will not plant trees if there is a threat of dangerous weather. Email the Office of Sustainability at sustain@auburn.edu if you need transportation to this event from campus.
