DESCRIPTION:The seminar will be moderated by Molly Boudreaux\, the Student Government Association’s assistant vice president of feedback and assessment\, and will feature a lively discussion between domestic and international student leaders as they share their perspectives on the challenges that race and ethnic relations in the United States can bring and compare those challenges with situations in their home countries. \n“The Window to Your World seminar series is important to internationalizing Auburn’s campus and educating the community on the historical context and current climate of different cultures around the globe\,” said Adeola Fayemi\, manager of the International Cultural Center. “The seminar is intended to help people break down stereotypes\, build connections across cultures and cultivate productive discussions that lead to informed awareness and understanding.” \nInternational students are typically discussed in the context of adding diversity to the U.S. higher education landscape. However\, there are rarely substantive dialogues on how other facets of international students’ identities\, including race and the dynamics of intersectionality\, shape their perspectives and experiences as they navigate university campuses and American society. This seminar will increase understanding of how international students cope and achieve academic success through an American prism of race and ethnicity that may differ from their own understanding.

Over the semester\, musicians and vocalists recorded their parts individually due to the restrained circumstances. DESCRIPTION:At Energy Alabama\, they don’t believe it’s too much to ask to be able to choose how you power your home and your life. Jonathan Scott agrees. You know him and his brother Drew as the Property Brothers. They’ve built\, bought\, and sold homes across North America for over 20 years. They’ve seen it all\, or so they thought. But\, when Jonathan installed solar on his own home\, he discovered the harsh reality of how far we have to go before we can truly have energy freedom. Thus began a journey across the country to uncover the truth. \nJonathan travels the country to examine the question of why isn’t solar available to all? Along the way he talks with conservatives fighting for solar freedom\, farmers struggling to make ends meet\, and coal workers desperate for a new\, healthy means of making an income. He visits with the Navajo Nation who built a utility-scale solar plant\, religious leaders making a desperate attempt to help meet their community’s energy needs\, and politicians at the forefront of the battle for energy freedom. \nEnergy Alabama will be co-hosting a Watch Party of Jonathan Scott’s new documentary – Power Trip\, along with Cilmate+Energy Project and Energy & Policy Institute. They’ll join together to watch the documentary then have an open discussion and Q&A about how Jonathan’s findings relate to our local communities and what we are doing about it.

This year’s theme\, Honoring the Dream: Exploring 21st Century Civic Engagement and Advocacy\, will highlight members of our community who are working to impact social change on the local level. One of our initiatives is the Green Coast Council (GCC)\, a forum for business and industry leaders who practice and promote environmental sustainability principles. Each year\, the GCC convenes a Sustainability Summit to encourage people in the private\, public\, and social sectors to understand the economic and environmental benefits of using sustainable and resilient business practices. \nPresentations at the 2021 Summit support the theme “Creating Resilient Communities: Intersections of Ecology\, Equity\, and Human Health.” The Summit will take place in real-time using ACF’s secure virtual meeting system and will have two keynote speakers and five one-hour sessions which include time for questions. All presentations should include 1-3 actionable items that attendees can implement at their business\, organization\, or home. \n

SUMMARY:Auburn Research: Faculty Symposium
DESCRIPTION:This year’s “Auburn Research: Faculty Symposium” will be held virtually to recognize the research and creative scholarship of Auburn and Auburn Montgomery faculty. \nThe day will kick off with a welcome by Jim Weyhenmeyer\, Auburn vice president for research and economic development\, followed by prerecorded\, moderated Auburn Talks. The talks will cover four research pillars: improve health and health care in Alabama and across the nation; create intelligent solutions; create a more secure world; and build resilient societies. \nLive Zoom roundtables will feature topics such as intellectual property\, telehealth and communicating science. More than 100 faculty will have their research posters displayed online in a virtual exhibit hall. All talks\, roundtables and posters will remain available online during the weeks after the event to allow for future viewing. \nThe Research Symposia Committee will announce soon the schedule.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of History Black History Speaker Series will feature Dr. Nicole Ivy on Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. on Zoom. Ivy will discuss “On Historical Tableaux and J. Marion Sims’s Montgomery Clinic.” \nNicole Ivy is a historical thinker and professional futurist who is passionate about the arts and social change. Her professional and scholarly interests include strategic foresight\, public history\, visual culture and inclusive change management. She earned her B.A. in english from the University of Florida and her joint PhD in African American Studies and American Studies from Yale University. She has received numerous academic appointments and awards\, including as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the History Department at Indiana University\, Bloomington\, or IUB\, and a postdoctoral fellow of the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society\, or CRRES\, at IUB. She also works widely in the museum field\, having begun her museum practice as an Institute of Museum and Library Services\, or IMLS\, Curatorial Fellow at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. She has held several inaugural positions at the American Alliance of Museums\, including serving as its first Director of Inclusion. She is an assistant professor of American Studies at The George Washington University.
