SUMMARY:Suggested Deadline: Absentee Ballot Requested
DESCRIPTION:Because it takes time for your absentee ballot application to be received and then for the ballot to reach you and for you to return your ballot\, it is suggested you make the request for an absentee ballot no later than October 10. This will help ensure you\, the election managers\, and the United State Postal Service have time to complete each step in the absentee voting process for the 2020 General Election.

SUMMARY:Suggested Deadline: Absentee Ballot Mailed
DESCRIPTION:Because it takes time for your ballot to be processed by the United States Postal Service (USPS)\, the USPS suggests you mail back your absentee ballot no later than one week prior to the deadline. For Alabama voters\, this means you should mail your absentee ballot back no later than Monday\, October 26.\nKeep in mind that in Alabama you will need at least $1.20 in postage on your ballot return envelope in order for it to not be returned to you for insufficient postage.

SUMMARY:Mitochondria: The Powerhouses of Life // Science Cafe
DESCRIPTION:This event will be presented by Drs. Wendy Hood and Jeff Yap\, Kyle Heine\, Hailey Parry\, Paulo Mesquita\, Emma Rhodes\, and LouAnn Crosby\, who will be discussing “Mitochondria: the powerhouses of life.” The talk will highlight how the small intracellular organelles’\, referred to as mitochondria\, power the lives of animals and other organisms. The group will discuss the structure and function of mitochondria and their work. Their research suggests that these tiny powerhouses control relative reproductive performance\, determine why some animals migrate and why some animals get fat easily\, while others do not. They will also describe their work that suggests how mitochondria change with exercise and age.
