DESCRIPTION:ANNOUNCEMENT: TREE PLANTING MOVED TO FEBRUARY 1 AT SAME TIME AND PLACE DUE TO WEATHER \nCome join the Office of Sustainability and the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center for Plant Ahead: A Tree Planting Event. Volunteers are invited to come plant trees at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center! Together\, we will learn about forestry practices\, Alabama’s native flora\, and how to properly plant trees while enjoying the beautiful outdoor scenery and wildlife of the preserve. A short information session will precede the event!  \nWork will be physical so volunteers should wear clothing that will protect the legs\, clothes you do not mind getting dirty\, and closed-toed shoes. A water cooler will be present\, so please bring a refillable water bottle. Additionally\, volunteers should bring gloves\, if available. Tools and some gloves will be available. Registration is requested\, but not required\, prior to the event. For an event reminder and to help spread the word\, RSVP for the PLANt Ahead event on Facebook. Students can register on the Office of Sustainability GivePulse. Waivers will be signed on site.    \nWe will meet in the parking lot at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center. Please join us on Thursday\, January 25th\, 2024\, from 2:30 PM-4:30 PM at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center to get outside and plant ahead! We will plant trees even if it is raining but will not plant trees if there is a threat of dangerous weather. The inclement weather date is February 1st\, 2024 at the same time and location. DESCRIPTION:A small stream that stretches past the football and baseball fields and the old coliseum on the campus\, the Auburn University Parkerson Mill Creek was transformed in 2014 into an area used as outdoor classrooms for environmental research. It is up to the Auburn University community to keep this living stream vibrant\, clean\, and beautiful.Volunteers for the event should meet beside the Auburn Wellness Kitchen at 1:30 p.m. Gloves and bags will be available for collecting\, but participants will be responsible for bringing appropriate footwear\, such as rubber boots or waders. Participants will need to sign a Volunteer Release & AckRunowledgement of Risk waiver prior to collecting; forms will be available on the day of the event.For more information or to request a waiver\, please contact Tom McCauley at mccautp@auburn.edu.

Volunteers should wear long pants\, closed-toe shoes and gloves. Extra tools will be provided\, but volunteers are encouraged to bring pruners\, lopping shears and small pruning saws\, if available. Volunteers will work alongside trained park staff and Tree Commission members to learn to identify and properly remove common invasives including privet\, elaeagnus\, Callery pear\, chinaberry\, mimosa and other common problem plants. \nVolunteers should meet at the parking area at the intersection of Wrights Mill Road and Shell Toomer Parkway. Work will begin at 8 am and continue until noon. Volunteers should wear long pants\, closed-toe shoes\, and gloves. Extra tools will be provided\, but volunteers are encouraged to bring pruners\, lopping shears\, and small pruning saws if available. DESCRIPTION:Join the Auburn University Cycling Advisory Committee as they work to complete the first-ever bicycle parking count on Auburn’s main campus.  Volunteers will meet at the Office of Sustainability to get materials and instructions before heading out in pairs to walk a segment of campus and count the number of bicycles parked in racks.  All volunteers will have a chance to be entered into a drawing for a Taco Mama gift card. \nPlease register for the event at our GivePulse.
