SUMMARY:Oscillation Transia Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:<p class=\'font_7\'>Oscillation Transia Film Festival is an outdoor event exploring the intersection of solar energy and independent cinema. Each event will include a free one-hour solar workshop and <a href=\'https://www.oscillationtransiafilmfestival.com/2018-films\' target=\'_blank\' rel=\'noopener\'>90-minute film screening</a>. DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this workshop is to spark conversations and highlight the various challenges of people across the social categorizations of gender\\, sexuality\\, and nationality statuses in regard to encountering interpersonal <span class=\'highlight\'>violence</span> within the home\\, typically involving a spouse or partner. Short videos that cover these topics will be screened followed by facilitated group discussions. DESCRIPTION:In honor of Suicide Prevention Month\\, Health Promotion and Wellness Services will be hosting a <strong>QPR (Question\\, Persuade\\, Refer) Marathon Training Day</strong>. There will be QPR Suicide Prevention Training sessions every hour\\, on the hour.  Attendees will become QPR Certified\\, meaning they will know how to spot signs that someone may be considering suicide and use the Question\\, Persuade\\, Refer method to assist a person in distress<strong>. All Auburn University\\, students\\, staff and faculty are welcome</strong> and encouraged to attend a <strong>fifty-minute training </strong>throughout the day.\n  \nIf you are already QPR trained\\, please encourage your colleagues and students to take advantage of the opportunity! The full training program is required to become a volunteer. Bringing a note pad and pen will be helpful. Centering around this year\'s theme\\, the conference will feature keynote speaker Lauren Washington. Washington is the founder of Black Women Talk Tech\\, a conference that educates\\, promotes\\, researches and funds entrepreneurial ventures of black women in tech. She also developed the Keep Up app to help with managing social media. The Women\'s Leadership Conference is open to all including faculty\\, staff\\, professionals\\, students and community members. Panel session topics will include Equipping Ourselves to Innovate\\, Ideating on Innovating\\, Innovation and You: Moving to the Next Step in Your Career\\, Positive Disruption and Social Entrepreneurship- Activating Passion for Social Justice\\, and Throwing out the Box- Recognizing Opportunity and Embracing Creativity. Registration on-site will be from 8-10 a.m. The conference begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1:45 p.m. The fee for Auburn students\\, faculty and staff is $35\\, and non-student registration fee is $50.

SUMMARY:Rape Aggression Defense Self-Defense Training
DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for the Rape Aggression Defense\\, or R.A.D. program. It teaches women self-defense techniques and risk reduction strategies to help improve their chances of escaping a threatening situation. Certified R.A.D. instructors from Campus Safety and Security and community law enforcement agencies will conduct the course. The goal is to enhance the options of self-defense so they become viable considerations. R.A.D. is a 12-hour course broken up over two days. Participants and instructors will be in special protective gear during simulations. The dynamic simulation empowers participants by teaching them the essentials of fighting back and fighting back effectively.

DESCRIPTION:During this fun interactive program\\, attendees will learn how fire shapes the natural landscape of the forest and participate in a prescribed burn\\, weather permitting. The City of Auburn Fire Department and Smokey the Bear will also be on hand to teach fire safety. Children will enjoy exploring a fire truck and other hands-on activities including a longleaf pine maze and charcoal drawings. Sign up for the hands-on workshop and learn how to make a variety of herb infused vinegars from beginning to end\\, get special recipes\\, and go home with your own completed bottle of herb vinegar! Participants will also receive a detailed handout including instructions\\, recipes\\, and tips on using herb infused vinegars.\nRegister soon\\, space is limited. DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Design Program in the College of Architecture\\, Design and Construction will present a lecture and workshop by Holley Henderson\\, LEED Fellow\\, founder of H2 Ecodesign and CADC Interior Architecture alumna. Henderson is a recognized sustainability and green building expert\\, author\\, consultant and speaker and has been honored as a LEED\\, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design\\, Fellow\\, the green building industry’s most prestigious professional designation. She has nearly 15 years and 4 million square feet of successful LEED certifications around the world.\nHer lecture\\, “Stories of eco-Trends: Reuse + Health + Social\\,” is at 11 a.m. in Dudley Auditorium B6. Her workshop\\, “Becoming a Green Building Professional\\,” will be in 204 Dudley from 1-3 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.
