SUMMARY:AL Rivers Educator Workshop - AWW
DESCRIPTION:Join 4-H Alabama Water Watch Staff and author of the book\, Alabama Rivers: A Celebration & Challenge\, Dr. Bill Deutsch\, in Auburn as we travel down rivers through time to encounter the rich human history and natural wonders that have defined Alabama. Participants will learn to use the Alabama Rivers book and accompanying Educator’s Guide to Alabama Rivers to celebrate Alabama’s magnificent rivers and how they have been shaped by geology over the ages with their students. We will learn about some of the unique plants and animals as well as noteworthy people who have called Alabama home. We will also learn to use resources and activities found in the Guide to challenge their students to restore and protect our rivers for their economic\, cultural\, and ecological benefits\, but most of all because it is the right thing to do. \nThe curriculum is correlated to the AL Course of Study Standards for Social Studies and Science for grades 4-7\, but is also adaptable for upper grades and other subjects. \nParticipants who complete the Alabama Rivers Workshop will receive: \n\nCertification as Alabama Rivers Educator\nCopy of the book Alabama Rivers\, A Celebration & Challenge\,\nCopy of An Educator’s Guide to Alabama Rivers\nAccess to online digital resources that support activities and lessons\nCEUs from Auburn University Office of Outreach and/or PowerSchool\n\nIf interested please register here on the Alabama Water Watch website.

SUMMARY:Ride and Seek at Chewacla State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join the Auburn Bike Committee for Ride and Seek. Ride and Seek is an event designed to teach kids how to ride bicycles and have fun. Designed for kids in grades K – 8\, riders and their parents will get safety tips from experts and test their skills on mountain bike trails and paved trails. There will be free prizes and a raffle for some great bike equipment. Each child must have a guardian or parent registered. \nParticipants should pre-register on the Auburn Parks and Recreation Website by September 25th at 5:00 PM to receive a t – shirt. $15 per person.

We believe this experience will be an impactful opportunity to enhance your cultural awareness as a leader today and in the future. We will be traveling to the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. \nWe have chartered a bus to travel from Auburn to Montgomery. A grab-and-go breakfast will be provided\, and lunch will be catered at Pannie George’s restaurant in Montgomery. The Office of Inclusion and Diversity will be leading a pre-trip discussion on the day of the trip at 8:30 a.m. in MSC 2310 to prepare students for their visit. DESCRIPTION:Teach-ins are meant to inform\, engage\, and inspire action on important issues.  No issue today is more important to our world than climate change\, which impacts everything we care about. \nJoin us to engage with experts on the topics of public health\, environmental justice\, solar energy in Alabama\, and movement building. The speaker and outcomes for participants are outlined below.  \n\nClimate and Public Health speaker Kelly Strickland: Understand the connection between the climate crisis and public health and wellness and learn how moving towards sustainable practices can positively impact public health and increase health equity for all! \nEnvironmental Justice speaker Ryan Thomson: Learn how the effects of climate change do not hit all Alabama’s communities equally. Issues of climate justice reveal stark differences in local impacts and the importance for a collective response that recognizes the needs of all Alabamians. \nSolar in Alabama speaker Daniel Tait: Discover how Alabama compares to its neighbors\, both regionally and nationally\, on clean energy\, and gain an understanding of the utility and regulatory framework in Alabama to provide a foundation for taking action on clean energy in your community and across the state. \nMovement Building speaker Mark Wilson: Move from concern to action with stories and lessons from the American civil rights movement that remain applicable today. \n\nThe Climate Teach-In is open to everyone and registration is requested\, but not required. \nRegister for the in-person event below. \nREGISTRATION IS REQUESTED  \nParking for off-campus guests is located on the top floor of the Stadium Parking Deck located on Heisman Drive in the spaces marked ‘visitor parking’. SUMMARY:Culture and Cuisine: Taste of African Diaspora - Commemorating Black Heritage Month
DESCRIPTION:During the month of February\, ICC is hosting Taste of the African Diaspora in commemoration of Black Heritage Month. This is an immersive cultural experience that highlights the food and cuisine of different countries as a portal and connection with their cultures.
