SUMMARY:Global Coral Reef Conservation: An Ongoing Fight
DESCRIPTION:Join Wild Science for the March Wild Science talk with Dr. Kelly Dunning!\nThis talk focuses on Dr. Dunning's recent research in the Cayman Islands where the government plans to destroy an area the size of 10 football fields worth of pristine coral reefs. She will discuss how everyday people are fighting this project\, and how the cruise industry is trying to do similar things throughout the Caribbean that will destroy reefs for private corporate gain. \nDr. Kelly Dunning is a Professor of Conservation at Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife. Her lab\, the Conservation Governance lab\, solves problems at the intersection of ecosystems and society. She holds a PhD from MIT\, an MSc from Oxford\, and is a Fulbright Scholar. She is author of the 2018 book Managing Coral Reefs\, which details how low-income communities can work collaboratively to manage coral reefs sustainably.

DESCRIPTION:\nFacilities Management will hold a document shredding day. Departments must drop off materials to be shredded to be accepted. Participating departments will be billed $3 per box for shredding and a labor fee if pick-up is needed. Submit a work order for pick-up by calling Work Management at 844-4357. An approved
Certificate of Records Destruction form is required for all shredding and must be submitted at least 72 hours before the scheduled shredding date. More information is available

Oscillation Transia Film Festival is an outdoor event exploring the intersection of solar energy and independent cinema. Each event will include a free one-hour solar workshop and 90-minute film screening. Seating and fresh water will be provided at each event. Attendees are encouraged to bring:

\nFolding Chair\\, some venues supply chairs\\, some do not. For best comfort bring your own from home.

This free-to-the-public event will take place at Auburn University Regional Airport from 9 a.m. to 2 pm. on Saturday\\, Oct. 6. \nGirls in Aviation Day 2018 is sponsored in part by Chicken Salad Chick and Auburn-Opelika Tourism\\, and focuses on exhibiting careers in the aviation industry. Girls in Aviation Day focuses on girls in grades K-12\\, but will include activities for all ages and genders. \nThe Auburn University International Cultural Center in the Office of International Programs dedicates each year to the study of a particular country or region to introduce the Auburn community to the rich variety of cultures around the globe. The 2018-19 academic year is the Year of Canada. \n“The Year of Canada program is important to internationalizing Auburn’s campus and engaging local and global communities\\,” said Adeola Fayemi\\, manager of the International Cultural Center. “The cultural events help students break down stereotypes\\, build connections across cultures and develop the intercultural competencies needed to be globally competitive and responsive in today’s complex interdependent world.” \nIn honor of Canada and its rich traditions\\, the International Cultural Center invites Auburn University students\\, faculty and staff and the wider community to join in the Year of Canada festivities throughout the month of September. \nThe Year of Canada fall celebration culminates on Saturday\\, Sept. 29\\, prior to the Auburn vs. Southern Miss football game for a Canadian themed tailgate outside of Spidle Hall. The tailgate opens three hours before the game and will end 30 minutes before kickoff. Guests can expect servings of traditional Canadian food and beverages and a featured musical and dance performance by Seven Nations\\, a Celtic rock band. All members of the Auburn Family are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in the festivities. \nIn addition to the fall activities\\, the International Cultural Center will be offering several Year of Canada events throughout the 2019 spring semester. This official campaign kickoff coincides with Auburn University’s Safety Week\\, which will highlight a different safety topic each day of the week. Tuesday\\, Sept. 18\\, is Transportation Safety Day. Travel with Care will be out on Haley Concourse engaging with students and spreading the word about Focus Forward.
Travel with Care is a transportation safety campaign that aims to educate Auburn residents on traffic laws and to encourage safe and courteous interaction among all road users.
