DESCRIPTION:The Auburn Parks and Recreation Department partners with local growers and artisans for the city’s farmers market\, City Market. City Market invites the community\, growers and consumers alike to join us every Saturday from May 21 to August 27\, plus one Saturday in October at Town Creek Park from 8 to 11 am. The purpose of City Market is to help local farmers\, growers and artists to sell their fresh\, local and handmade products to community members. \nFarmers\, growers\, and artists who are interested in participating in the City Market must complete an application and submit their Grower’s Permit to the Market Coordinator. Materials may be submitted in person at the Harris Center (425 Perry Street) or via email to the Market Coordinator.

DESCRIPTION:Polls in Auburn open for voting in the municipal election. \nSome residents’ ward boundaries and voting locations have changed.\nThe Auburn City Council adopted new boundaries for the City’s voting wards earlier this year. All Auburn residents are encouraged to look up their current ward and voting location to see if their ward has changed since the 2018 election. DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to a reading by Marlin Barton\, author of Children of Dust\, on Tuesday\, August 30 at 4 PM at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill. \nMarlin Barton has published three collections of short stories\, The Dry Well\, Dancing by the River\, and Pasture Art\, and two novels\, A Broken Thing and The Cross Garden. His stories have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies\, including Shenandoah\, The Southern Review\, The Sewanee Review\, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards\, and The Best American Short Stories. Barton is the 2016 winner of the Truman Capote Prize for short fiction by an Alabama writer. \nThe event is free\, open to the public\, and will be followed by refreshments. Books will be available for purchase from Auburn Oil Co. Booksellers.

These organizations are focusing on areas such as housing\, education\, art\, food insecurity\, and more. . Everyone is welcome to access the volunteer fair for opportunities and general information about the amazing work these nonprofit organizations are doing in Lee and Macon County. \nThis is a chance for students who have service projects to complete in the coming school year to connect with these organizations.
