SUMMARY:Information Session about the Public Interest Research Group
DESCRIPTION:The organizers provide students the training and resources needed to become movement leaders by recruiting volunteers\, training potential leaders to take on more responsibility and doing campaign work themselves. \nStudents are often at the forefront of movements to build a better future for our country. But students only make real progress when they are organized\, have the skills to be effective and have a strategic plan to get things done. That’s where we come in: For almost 50 years\, the Student PIRGs have been working to amplify the power of student activism. They help students make real change\, right now\, to help all Americans to live meaningful lives and to have a future that’s greener and healthier.

SUMMARY:Exercise is Medicine on Campus
DESCRIPTION:The School of Kinesiology is leading a lunch walk Monday for everyone on campus to celebrate \'Exercise is Medicine on Campus\' month. The walk will start in front of the School of Kinesiology building\\, just behind the Campus Recreation Building. Doctoral student Kameron Suire will lead the group on a short walk around campus for 15-20 minutes.\nThe American College of Sports Medicine started ‘Exercise is Medicine on Campus’ month and calls upon universities and colleges to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health. It encourages faculty\\, staff and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community by making movement a part of the daily campus culture. \nFederal physical activity guidelines recommend adults do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate aerobic activity\\, or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) of vigorous aerobic activity exercise each week\\, which can be walking or jogging\\, in addition to strength training activities at least twice a week. That’s 15-30 minutes per day\\, minimum. Only 22.9 percent of U.S. adults meet the guidelines\\, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2018 National Health Statistics Reports. \nJumpstart your physical activity goals with a lunch walk on Oct. 29! The School of Kinesiology’s mission is to improve the movement\\, health and performance of society through research\\, outreach and teaching. \nContact Kameron Suire for more information at <a href=\'mailto:kbs0041@tigermail.auburn.edu\'>kbs0041@tigermail.auburn.edu</a>.
