SUMMARY:Finding Franklin: A Common Book AUmazing Race Event
DESCRIPTION:Registration Required & Space Limited: To celebrate the community that forms around our Common Book\, the Office of the Provost is hosting Finding Franklin: A Common Book AUmazing Race Event on Sunday\, September 13\, 2026\, from 1 to 3 pm. Like the style of the popular tv show\, The Amazing Race\, this event will have teams of students traverse campus to complete as many Ben Franklin-themed physical and mental challenges as they can before time ends! Prizes include gift cards\, special campus opportunities\, and unique Auburn items! Students may register to participate with up to 4 members per team. \nStudents visit the Provost’s Common Book events page to register to play and for more information. \nThe Common Book Program: As part of its annual Common Book program\, Auburn University has selected Ben & Me: In Search of a Founder’s Formula for a Long and Useful Life as the 2026 Common Book\, anchoring a shared academic experience for incoming students during the university’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Auburn’s Common Book Program introduces new students to the university’s academic community through a shared reading that encourages critical thinking\, meaningful dialogue and engagement beyond the classroom. The selection of Ben & Me: In Search of a Founder’s Formula for a Long and Useful Life aligns with the university’s America250 initiatives\, inviting members of the campus and broader communities to reflect on the nation’s founding ideals and their continuing relevance to democratic life and civic responsibility. \nVolunteers Needed: Anyone with an auburn.edu email can sign up to volunteer by visiting the Office of Sustainability blog post:  Volunteers Needed for Finding Franklin: A Common Book AUmazing Race Event.   \nStudents will be able to earn volunteer hours. Students initially sign up through the Microsoft form found on the blog post linked above. Then\, a couple weeks prior to the event students will be sent a GivePulse link.

SUMMARY:Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Office of Sustainability\, in collaboration with The Jule Museum and the Native Systems Restoration Lab\, is hosting Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop with artist scholar Douglas Pierre Baulos. The program is a part of The Jule’s artist residency where Baulos will meet with students\, faculty and the community. The workshop highlights the connections between science\, art\, and sustainability.\n\nBaulos will share the process of dyeing materials with natural pigments harvested from the University of Alabama in Birmingham Dye Garden in the Conference Hall\, room 1101\, of the College of Forestry\, Wildlife and Environment building. Using natural dyes\, participants will personalize a reproduction of the artist’s rendering of a red-cockaded woodpecker from the university art collection. The workshop encourages participants to think more deeply about the origins of the objects they create and use.\n\nAdditional partners include:\n\nCrop\, Soil\, and Environmental Science Club\nDonald E. Davis Arboretum\nRBD Makerspace\nSociety for Conservation Biology\nStudio 5 Art History Club\n\nRegistration required. Space is limited. Early registration for students and employees is available via AU Involve. If space is still available\, general registration opens to the public on Thursday\, November 5th via a Microsoft Registration form that will be posted in this calendar posting.\n\nTo preview the exhibition\, visit The Jule’s website at Douglas Pierre Baulos: A Bird’s Eye View. The Jule Museum will also present a public lecture at the museum on Thursday\, Nov. 12\, at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition is on view through Sunday\, Dec. 6. Admission is free.
