SUMMARY:Alabama Water Rally: Alabama's Annual Gathering of Clean Water Advocates
DESCRIPTION:With unprecedented federal investment in water and wastewater infrastructure and significant incentives for moving toward clean energy and transportation\, the time is now to come together\, get informed\, and plan for how we will act collectively to ensure Alabama’s communities and ecosystems are not left out of the conversation. How we embrace this opportunity and respond to the challenges in the next few years could mean the difference between making the enormous shift we need to address climate change or leaving the fate of impacted communities and ecosystems vulnerable to the continued status quo. Join ARA and their partners at Alabama Water Rally 2023 as they empower our movement with the tools and the allies to mobilize for this moment! \nClick here to register and learn more.

SUMMARY:Climate Conversations: Tipping Points
DESCRIPTION:With continued climate change\, elements of the Earth system may reach tipping points—abrupt\, dramatic changes with irreversible consequences—like the rapid collapse of ice sheets or dieback of the Amazon rainforest. Tipping points also exist in human systems: devastation from extreme weather and major stresses on food\, energy\, and water could accumulate and tilt society into a radically different state with new dynamics\, including mass migration or major economic shifts. However\, tipping points in human systems can also be positive and stem from rapidly spreading norms\, behaviors\, and technologies\, such as how battery storage could tip the power sector irreversibly towards renewable energy. Laurie Goering (Thomson Reuters Foundation) will moderate a conversation between Ilona M. Otto (University of Graz) and Rachael Shwom (Rutgers University) about the tipping points we are approaching\, how to prepare for those we may reach\, and how to encourage positive social tipping points for action on climate change. \nThe conversation will be a webcast on the Climate Conversations: Tipping Points webpage and Closed captioning will be provided. The conversation will include questions from the audience and will be recorded and available to view on the page after the event.

SUMMARY:Discover Auburn Lecture: "Bomber Boys- WWII Flight Jacket Art"
DESCRIPTION:In the final program of spring 2023\, Auburn University Libraries’ Discover Auburn Lecture Series will present John Slemp to speak about his new book “Bomber Boys – WWII Flight Jacket Art.” \n“Bomber Boys – WWII Flight Jacket Art” is a visual record of A-2 jackets worn by bomber aircrews that represent all World War II theaters of operations. The photos were taken by Slemp from both museums and private owners. Along with artifacts\, photos\, and personal accounts\, these jacket photos reveal a visual diary of a man’s service in the U.S. Army Air Corps. \nSlemp will be joined in the program by World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veterans Ambers Hansen and Orrin Brown. Tech. Sgt. Hanson was a radio operator on both B-17s and B-24s. Stationed in Mendlesham\, England\, he flew 25 missions in France\, Germany\, and what was then Czechoslovakia as a member of the 8th Air Force “Mighty Eighth\,” 34th Bomb Group\, 391st Bomb Squadron\, all before turning 21.
